What element are Mountain Trolls weak against?
i'm trying to make a perfect trollslaying axe but i don't know what axe head i should put on it
what does the most damage vs trolls? fiery axe head?- icy?- shocking? which would do the most damage- cold damage, lightning damage, or fire damage? or chaos damage? what's next best thing next to chaos damage if it does the most? Last edited by Demented Harpy; May 26, 2006 at 05:35 PM // 17:35.. |

Considering mountain trolls are warrior based, an elemental mod is best. I'm aware you've already come to this conclusion. If I'm not mistaken, they're the ones in the Southern Shiverpeaks no? Considering that's an ice based zone, I'll make an educated guess and say fire is a strong element there.
I'm not sure though, if their monster race in the shiverpeaks gives them a weakness against fire and strength against ice or they're just purely warrior based and any old element will do. I'd experiment, throw on an ice mod, see how much damage you do in general, then throw on a fire mod (considering elemental mods are cheap as chips) and see if there's a difference the worst you could have is if they done the exact same damage. |

Yeah, every physical weapon has a Fiery, Icy, Shocking, Ebon weapon mod to change the damage type accordingly. Most people are out for sundering though so weapons that get those mods are either salvaged for other mods, for materials or just sold to the merchant.

They are weak against the element of surprise. Death's Charge + Shock + Falling Spider + Aftershock + Caltrops + Flame Burst + Return.

i think the elemental mods will do more damage specifically towards the enemies that are weak against them- sundering mods hardly change the damage at all- on an axe that's hitting a troll it'll probably add +1 or 2 damage 20% of the time
its almost completely useless- terrible mod in my opinion |

yes guild wars would be much better with a Counter Strike aspect to it- throw dynamite and grenades at them before shooting them with machine guns

There's no reason why anybody troll farming would fear -1 degen from a vampiric mod. You're using cyclone axe, aren't you? 3 hp from every troll you've agroed? Please. If you're not fighting, switch off. That's what weapon sets are for.

From teh Wiki:
"Anything aligned with earth, water or death will take significantly more damage from fire attacks. Anything aligned with fire will take significantly less damage from fire. Thus, fire damage is especially effective in Kryta and Maguuma, and particularily uneffective in post-Searing Ascalon and the Ring of Fire." Not sure if that helps much, but it's all I could find. |

ill second vampiric. ive farmed more than a few trolls myself, and vampiric is by far the most useful to me. not only does it do the extra 3 damage, and not only do you gain insane life with cyclone, it also allows you to drop healing (if youre using a monk version- LV and VS) a couple of points. that lets you pump more into axe or str (tact should be 16 for sure).
for trolls, i use a vampiric axe of defense - 15^50 and customized. it works wonders. technically shelter would be better, and trollslaying would be "mo betta" but mine works fine. i would only suggest using a non-vampiric axe to those who dont have the intellectual capacity to switch it when youre running to the cave and when youre picking up the loot. ....not saying that to anyone in particular, i just think its by far the superior choice. |
